Geopotentials

Due to its geological setting, the Upper Rhine Graben (ORG) exhibits a multitude of geopotentials. In the wake of recent developments, especially in the field of global climate change, deep geothermal energy production, CO2 sequestration and the storage of compressed air have increasingly attracted professional and public interest.

The sustainable utilization of these natural ressources in the future will considerably add to the value creation in the trinational economical area with an extensive impact on its economical and technological development. The application of regenerative technologies will have a positive both-way effect on the environment and employment market.

For a successful utilization of the geopotentials an evaluation and close examination of possible georisks is indespensable. The acquisition of detailed knowledge regarding the geology of the Upper Rhine Graben therefore serves as an important basis.
